“Uzbekistan in the 20th Century” Exhibition: A Section Telling the Story of the Country’s Key Historical Events

As part of preparations for the opening of the world’s unique megaproject — the Center for Islamic Civilization — scheduled for this September, a Special Task Headquarters has been established.

In line with the directives given by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during his visit on January 29, a top priority has been set: to enrich the exhibitions with historically accurate content, unique artifacts, and models, as well as to create a scientific and educational environment for the younger generation.

To this end, the “Uzbekistan in the 20th Century” section is being developed, covering the period from 1890 to 2016. This exhibition will highlight the formation of an independent state, stages of development, and key historical turning points. A total of 59 projects are planned to be implemented in this section, with completion scheduled in phases by 2026.

The content of the exhibition is being prepared by more than 70 scholars and specialists. Important themes such as the Jadid movement, the emergence of new schools and theaters, textbooks, political repressions, World War II, and science and art during the Soviet era will be specially highlighted.

The early years of independence — including Islam Karimov’s rise to leadership in 1989 and the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1991 — will also be featured in the exhibition. The entire display will be built using modern multimedia technologies, interactive elements, and historical archival materials. Through this, the “Uzbekistan in the 20th Century” section will provide an immersive and vivid understanding of the country’s history.
