How should historical heritage be promoted? Central Asian media is searching for solutions
Within the framework of the international congress “Central Asia: common spiritual and educational heritage – common future,” held at the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, broad discussions were also conducted on the cultural and educational media direction. At the sectional meeting, participants exchanged views on promoting national values through screens, the impact of documentary and educational projects on public consciousness, trends in digital journalism, interactive formats, and the importance of presenting historical heritage through modern media technologies.
Media specialists from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Azerbaijan took part in the event.
During the meeting, the role of cultural and educational television channels in the spiritual development of society and their responsibility in the information space were discussed. In addition, a special video was presented using the example of the “Sevimli” television channel, dedicated to the development of scientific and educational television content in Uzbekistan.
The sectional meeting also featured presentations by Erkin Mukhamedzhanov, Director of Kazakhstan’s “Abay” television channel; Orazmurad Muradov, Executive Secretary of Turkmenistan’s “Nesil” newspaper; Fuad Huseynaliyev, Director of Azerbaijan’s “Report.az” information agency; and Jaloliddin Safaev, Director-General of the “Sevimli” television channel.
Erkin Mukhamedzhanov, Director of Kazakhstan’s “Abay” television channel, emphasized that his visit to the Islamic Civilization Center left a great impression on him:
“The fact that a Qur’an manuscript written in the 7th century is displayed in the Qur’an Hall of the Central Museum is itself a great historical event. The exhibitions created on the basis of modern technologies at the Center are an invaluable source for scholars, journalists, and tourists,” he said.

Azerbaijani expert Fuad Huseynaliyev also recognized the Center as an important research venue for the global scientific community:
“Here, the history of humanity and Islamic civilization are presented in a single, unified concept. The Mushaf of Hazrat Uthman is one of the rarest exhibits of the Center. Modern infographics and interactive solutions make the Center even more attractive on the international stage,” he said.
Jaloliddin Safaev, Director-General of the “Sevimli” television channel, gave special attention to the role of mass media in spiritual and educational processes:
“Delivering historical heritage to the public consciousness accurately and objectively is the primary duty of the mass media. The establishment of the Islamic Civilization Center is considered an important step of cultural diplomacy that unites the countries of the region,” he emphasized.
Zuhriddin Umarov, editor of the Television and Radio Committee under the Government of Tajikistan, also noted the great importance and relevance of television in today’s information age:
The Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan, built at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, is a truly unique project. The sections of the museum, especially the periods of the First and Second Renaissance and the achievements of the present New Uzbekistan, are presented in a way that harmoniously combines ancient and modern times, leaving a great impression. The beneficial use of artificial intelligence, which is widely used today, deserves special praise. Of course, much is also said about certain negative aspects of artificial intelligence. However, by visiting the Center, we directly witnessed how artificial intelligence can be used beneficially. I think that the international congress in Tashkent, which united the region, will make a great contribution to strengthening our future cooperation.
It was also noted that regional media cooperation has expanded and that the Islamic Civilization Center has become a new bridge of friendship for media dialogue.
Based on the results of the meeting, proposals were put forward to strengthen cooperation in the following areas:
• improving the activities of cultural and educational television channels in the region;
• developing documentary films and historical-educational projects;
• preparing joint programs in interactive formats and digital media platforms;
• expanding the exchange of experience and content between the media organizations of Central Asia and Azerbaijan.
As a result of the sectional discussions, regional cooperation in the field of cultural and educational media has been raised to a new stage. At the same time, the role of the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan in cultural diplomacy was clearly demonstrated.
