Lapo Pyotr, Deputy Director of the Seifulla Kaleyev Scientific Library, Kazakhstan National Women’s Pedagogical University:

“I am a member of the Regional Committee of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) for Asia and the Pacific countries. This regional division unites 62 countries around the world.

I would like to say that the congress held in Tashkent is, first of all, a very significant and major event in the history of human civilization. Why? Because, indeed, since ancient times, the culture of Central Asia has formed the foundation of human culture.

If you know, there was a period in history when medieval Europe received its knowledge of the ancient world directly from Central Asia. That is why Central Asia has always served as a bridge between the cultures of various nations. In addition, I must emphasize that promoting and popularizing Islamic culture and Islamic civilization is extremely important. For example, having grown up in the Soviet Union, we believed that all cultures were equal and that we knew each other well. However, in reality, since I am originally from Belarus, I had very little knowledge about the culture of Central Asia.

And I believe that it is absolutely necessary to promote and popularize this culture so that Islam and Islamic ideas are correctly understood throughout the world. Therefore, when I speak about the Islamic Civilization Center, I am convinced that its activities contribute to strengthening mutual understanding between peoples and facilitating cultural interaction between different nations, which in turn contributes to the sustainable development of humanity.”
