Beruni’s lost globe is being reconstructed

🔴 At the Center for Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan, you will witness a groundbreaking discovery with your own eyes

Vice President of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, Professor Bahrom Abduhalimov, spoke about the ongoing work at the Center for Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan, a world-shaking discovery expected to be exhibited in the “First Renaissance” section of the museum, and its importance:

“Thanks to the initiative of our esteemed President, the Center for Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan is now entering its final stage. We can say that it was our President who first initiated this idea, personally oversaw its development from the very beginning, and gave essential recommendations along the way. His suggestions concerning the final stages of the Center’s establishment and its future activities will undoubtedly serve to further perfect this institution.

Although Uzbekistan has a very rich history, until now there was no proper opportunity to fully present it within our own country. Indeed, we have archaeological monuments, architecture, and manuscripts but there was no unified complex that brought all of them together within a single conceptual framework. The main idea behind the initiative voiced by our President from the high rostrum of the United Nations was to showcase Islam as a religion of peace and tolerance, and, at the same time, to highlight its immense contribution to human civilization.

At this stage, we can say that the Center has practically achieved its main goals. An exhibition encompassing 3,000 years of Uzbekistan’s history from ancient times to the present day has been created and enriched with unique artifacts.

We know that many of these invaluable artifacts once left Uzbekistan for various reasons in the past. For the first time, under the initiative of our President, such rare artifacts have been returned to Uzbekistan, and in every section of the Center, significant ideas have been reflected.

In the “First Renaissance” section, there are many discoveries by religious scholars and scientists in the exact and natural sciences. One of these is the globe created by Abu Rayhan Beruni.

We know that Abu Rayhan Beruni once made a globe, but it has not survived to our time. However, the coordinates of this globe have been preserved in his works. Together with our international partners, we have now reconstructed this globe. In his writings, Beruni provided the coordinates of 600 cities of his time and we have managed to include 150 of them in this reconstruction. Thus, we have been able to recreate the globe of Abu Rayhan Beruni, which was previously considered lost.

Many similar examples can be given. In short, the Center for Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan, by its very essence, is unique and has no analogues in the world. Naturally, visitors especially our own people and youth will take pride in the fact that Uzbekistan possesses such a great history. They will be inspired by these ideas, shaped by this legacy, and strive to carry it forward into the future.”
