The Literary Heritage of Sakkokiy Will Be Popularized

The literary heritage of Sakkokiy holds a respected place in Uzbek classical literature. He was one of the poets who lived and created during the time of the great commander Amir Timur and the Timurid dynasty. His divan has been preserved as a manuscript, which adds special value to it. The poet's qasidas provide information about the time of his life. His major qasidas were dedicated to the descendants of Timur — Khalil Sultan and Mirzo Ulugbek, based on which it can be inferred that the poet was born around the 70s-80s of the 14th century and passed away in the middle of the 15th century.

Sakkokiy is a literary pseudonym, and the poet's real name remains unknown. The word "Sakkokiy" translates as "knife-maker." This likely refers to both his trade and the sharpness of his verses. His qasidas dedicated to Arslon Khoja Tarhan and Khoja Muhammad Porsol are particularly famous and have become popular among the people. In his works, he frequently referred to examples of folk oral traditions.

Sakkokiy was a master of ghazals. His poems are filled with themes of love, passion, the agony of separation, and the sweetness of reunion. In short, Sakkokiy's contribution to Uzbek classical literature is invaluable. In light of this, the Center for Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan is working to popularize the poet's work. Currently, scientific research and interesting content based on his works are being developed. Facsimiles of the manuscripts are being prepared, and materials for the Center's exhibition are being organized. A team of scholars created by the Center is also working on producing electronic copies of these manuscripts.
