The “firsts” in Uzbekistan’s history: a source of courage and inspiration
Uzbekistan’s history is full of great figures, unforgettable events, and “firsts” that have become a source of pride for our nation. They opened new paths in various fields and became examples for generations.
The teacher who wrote the first alphabet book
Oqilkhon Sharafiddinov — the author of the first Uzbek alphabet textbook. Written in 1938, this book was later revised and republished. Today, School No. 129 in Tashkent is named after him.
The first international grandmaster
Georgiy Agzamov — in 1984, at the age of 30, he became the first Uzbek chess player to earn the title of International Grandmaster.
The first Uzbek actress
Tursunoy Saidazimova — remembered as the first Uzbek actress in history. She was not only a pioneer on stage but also a devoted figure who fought for the spiritual freedom of women.
The first cosmonaut
Salizhon Sharipov — the first Uzbek to fly into space in 1998. He traveled to space twice and was awarded the Order “For Great Services”.
The first world boxing champion
Rufat Riskiyev — in 1974, at a tournament in Cuba, he became the first Uzbek world champion in boxing. Later, he won a silver medal at the Olympics.
The first female locomotive driver
Bashorat Mirboboyeva — one of the first parachutists and, since 1937, the first female locomotive driver in Uzbekistan.
The first female conductor
Dilbar Abdurahmonova — an Uzbek and Soviet conductor and violinist. In 1977, she was awarded the title People’s Artist of the USSR and became known as the first female conductor in history.
The first female journalist executed in the repressions
Sobira Xoldorova — remembered as the first Uzbek female journalist to become a victim of the Stalinist purges. Her fate stands as a lesson and an example for readers.
Today, in the “Uzbekistan in the 20th Century” section of the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan’s exhibition, special attention is given to the lives and activities of such historical figures. In addition, the screening of the documentary film “the first swallows of Uzbekistan” is planned. The film presents short, powerful scenes about these inspiring personalities.
