Neither a lion nor a bird — what was this mythological creature a symbol of in ancient times?
🔴 The harmony of ancient mythology and art

A unique golden trident artifact from the Achaemenid period, created in the 4th century BC, has shaken the world of history and art. Measuring 24.5 cm in length and weighing 40 grams, this piece embodies not only material value but also spiritual and aesthetic grandeur.
The most remarkable feature of the artifact is the depiction of a mythical creature the Griffin. This image demonstrates that the object is not merely a product of craftsmanship, but rather a work of art with ideological and symbolic meaning.
This Achaemenid style merged with the culture of the peoples of Central Asia and shows parallels with other artifacts discovered in the Tillatepa excavations.
According to analyses, the golden trident likely belonged to the aristocracy or military elite, with each corner reflecting the culture, art, and historical narrative of the past. At present, this artifact is preserved in the Sam Fogg collection and may be exhibited in the “pre-Islamic civilizations” section of the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan in the future.
Such historical objects carry not only archaeological value but also unparalleled importance in understanding national identity and preserving cultural heritage.
