🔴 Jadids, victims of repression, and heroes of independence — all in one place!
Over the past century, the people of Uzbekistan have lived through different eras, systems, and political transformations. The conquest by Tsarist Russia, the Soviet period, and the early years of independence each stage brought its own trials and left a mark on the nation’s destiny. Yet in all times, our people preserved their dignity, honor, cultural heritage, and faith.
“Uzbekistan is a country rich in vast natural resources, economic and human potential. But there is one more priceless gift bestowed upon us by the Almighty, and that is the boundless intellectual and spiritual capacity of our people”, said President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
To highlight this spiritual wealth more vividly, a special section titled “Uzbekistan in the 20th Century” is being created in the museum exposition of the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan. This section will thoroughly cover the country’s socio-political processes, the struggle of enlighteners and Jadid intellectuals for national progress, the Soviet-era repressions, the scientific, cultural, and economic transformations of the 1950s–1980s, and the reforms carried out during the years of independence.
In discussions attended by Dr. Temur Shirinov, Professor of History; Bakhtiyor Khasanov, Director of the State Museum of Memory of the Victims of Repressions; Professor Jannat Ismailova, Director of the State Museum of the History of Uzbekistan; as well as Russian specialists from “Sila Sveta” company and other historians, it was emphasized that the activities of Jadids and Turkestan’s enlighteners in awakening the nation should be more widely represented.

Proposals were also made to illustrate the political events of the Soviet era, the victims of repression, achievements in culture and science, and the development of state symbols, religious values, and the defense system during the independence years.
“The exposition should not only feature the well-known Jadids, but also bring to light the lesser-known enlighteners, and especially highlight the role of women in the field of science”, emphasized Bakhtiyor Khasanov.
At the conclusion of the discussions, it was agreed that the exposition will be enriched with modern interpretations and interactive solutions based on historical sources, presenting the prominent figures and events of different eras to the public in a fresh and engaging spirit.
