Work at the Center of Islamic Civilization is progressing rapidly
Yesterday, on August 19, 2025, at 11:11 a.m., a fire broke out during the installation of insulation materials on the roof of one of the buildings of the “Center of Islamic Civilization” located in the Olmazor district of Tashkent, as a result of violations of technological regulations.
As reported, 19 square meters of the roof were damaged, but most importantly, no civilians were harmed, and the interior of the building remained completely intact. Nevertheless, various unfounded false opinions and reactions are being spread on social media regarding this incident. In particular, untrue reports have circulated claiming that employees were working inside the complex at the time of the fire and that unique artifacts were damaged.
In this regard, we state the following:
1️⃣ Since construction works have not yet been completed, the staff of the “Center of Islamic Civilization” have not moved into the building.
2️⃣ No historical exhibits, including the Kaaba cover, have been placed in the building.
3️⃣ All unique artifacts brought for the museum exhibition of the Center are kept in a separate secure location under strict supervision.
4️⃣ The new complex has not yet been officially commissioned and handed over for use; therefore, no employees of the Center are working in the building.
We further inform that the construction works are being carried out under the responsibility of the following organizations: the designer “Uzogirsanoatloyiha” JSC, the general contractor — “Trest-12” JSC, the client the “Single customer service” engineering company under the Tashkent City Administration, the financier — the Directorate for the construction, reconstruction, and major repair of specially important social, cultural, and historical sites under the Cabinet of Ministers. In addition, several leading foreign companies and designers are also involved in the work.
The “Center of Islamic Civilization” highly values our citizens’ attention and concern for national heritage and sacred values. At present, the construction processes are fully under the control of the responsible organizations, the work is proceeding according to plan, and completion is imminent.
We urge all our compatriots to rely on information provided through official sources and not to pay attention to unfounded rumors.
