Animation, 3D graphics, and artificial intelligence: historical heritage is being revived for youth in a new technological format

The construction of the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan, established based on the initiative and vision of the Head of State, has reached its final stage. At present, over 2,000 local and international experts, scholars, researchers, designers, artists, craftsmen, as well as several ministries and organizations, are actively working together to enrich the content of this grand institution’s exhibition.
The museum exhibition of the Center, formed through diverse approaches, discussions, and analytical insights, is being developed with a special focus on creating content that, as emphasized by the President, will scientifically and accessibly convey the greatness of our nation, embody the national spirit, and inspire a sense of inner strength and confidence in visitors especially the youth.
As a vivid and practical embodiment of the “New Renaissance” vision put forward by the President, the “Wall of civilizations and discoveries” project part of the exhibition at the Museum of the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan is set to showcase historical heritage through new technological formats. Discoveries by our ancestors such as al-Khwarizmi’s “Pillar of algorithms”, Ibn Sina’s anatomical studies, and al-Farghani’s Nilometer device will be presented in an engaging, visually striking, and inspirational manner that leaves a lasting impression.
To provide the media with an up-close view of the work being carried out and the filming process for this project, a press tour was organized.
Implemented by the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan, the “Wall of civilizations and discoveries” is more than just an exhibition it is an innovative cultural and educational initiative aimed at offering a new perspective on the development of human civilization.
The primary goal of the project is to spark interest in science among the younger generation and to present the scientific legacy of great thinkers and scholars who flourished in the Islamic world in a memorable, impactful, and inspirational way through modern visual tools.
Muzaffar Erkinov, Director and creative lead of the project:
“At present, we are working closely with the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan on the ‘Wall of civilizations and discoveries’ project. In implementing this initiative, we are paying special attention to the task set by our President: to create content that actively engages youth. That is why we are working on developing a modern educational platform through interactive media content, animation, 3D graphics, and artificial intelligence, covering the pre-Islamic period as well as the First and Second Renaissance eras.
As part of the ‘Wall of civilizations and discoveries’, our team is producing nearly 100 multimedia video contents, animations, game-based technologies, and AI-powered materials. These works focus on the legacy of great scholars who laid the foundation of global science including al-Khwarizmi, Abu Ali Ibn Sina, Ahmad al-Farghani, and others.
For example:
➖ In the section dedicated to al-Khwarizmi, visitors can interact with the ‘Pillar of Algorithms’ to solve equations;
➖ The Ibn Sina exhibition enables interactive exploration of human anatomy;
➖ The al-Farghani section allows users to model agricultural productivity by managing water levels through his invention the Nilometer.
Each frame, each visual element is a dialogue with history. In this project, we are collaborating with local scholars. Archaeologist Surat Qubaev, in particular, is providing invaluable support. Every historical fact and detail is carefully verified by our scholars before we begin the visualization process. Thanks to the combination of scientific accuracy and creative interpretation, we are not only representing the past but also reviving it in the minds of the younger generation. To achieve this, we are working alongside experts from the Center, both local and international scholars, as well as leading institutions such as Russia’s ‘Planet 9’ company and the University of Oxford. Every piece of content produced undergoes review by the Scientific Council under the Center of Islamic Civilization and is finalized based on historical sources. This approach positions the project as a true example of harmony between science and art”.
“Every visual is a dialogue with history”: archaeologist Surat Qubaev shared the following thoughts on his involvement in the project:
“In historical and cultural projects like this, the participation of archaeologists and historians is one of the key requirements. Every visual image, artifact, or scene helps shape a collective understanding of the past. We don’t just provide filmmakers with historical facts we also share knowledge about the customs, clothing styles, architectural elements, pottery, and even the worldview of the people from that era. This greatly assists directors and designers in creating content that feels real and credible. I am primarily responsible for ensuring historical accuracy in the multimedia content. Every person, event, place, and object depicted in the materials must align with the appropriate historical period. For example, in the exhibitions on Ibn Sina’s studies of human anatomy or Ahmad al-Farghani’s Nilometer, it is my duty to guarantee scientific precision and adherence to authentic sources. In addition, we discuss how to present the historical significance of each scene in a way that is both clear and impactful for the viewer, and I contribute additional details when necessary”.
Such a large-scale, scientifically grounded, and technologically advanced project is a vivid and practical embodiment of the “New Renaissance” vision promoted by our President. This exhibition is not only a tribute to science and history but also serves as a source of inspiration, a spiritual guide, and an intellectual treasure for future generations.
