The famous Louvre Museum will undergo reconstruction
The French Ministry of Culture has launched a large-scale project worth 800 million euros to reconstruct the Louvre Museum. This initiative, called the “New Louvre Renaissance”, aims to modernize the museum in accordance with contemporary standards over the coming years.
French Minister of Culture Rachida Dati has announced an international competition and officially presented the panel of judges for the project. Applications from participating architects must be submitted by September 1, 2025.
The jury will be chaired by Marc Guillaume, Prefect of Île-de-France, and Laurence des Cars, Director of the Louvre. One-third of the panel will consist of renowned architecture experts, including Sandy Pei, the son of the legendary architect I.M. Pei, known for the Louvre’s iconic glass pyramid.
Within the framework of the project, the following developments are planned:
➖ A new entrance to the Louvre Museum,
➖ New exhibition halls,
➖ A dedicated exhibition space for the famous artwork Mona Lisa (La Gioconda).
According to the plan, the reconstruction work is expected to be fully completed by 2031. These changes are anticipated to bring a modern touch to the historical appearance of the Louvre and create a more comfortable and culturally enriching environment for visitors.
It is worth noting that in November 2022, the Presidents of Uzbekistan and France attended the exhibition “The Splendors of the Oases of Uzbekistan: At the Crossroads of Caravan Routes” at the Louvre. This exhibition, dedicated to the rich cultural heritage of the Uzbek people, was organized in accordance with the agreements reached during the official visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to France in October 2018.
