The legacy of the people’s writer of Uzbekistan, O‘tkir Hoshimov, is in the focus of the Center of Islamic Civilization
Today, August 5, marks the birthday of the prominent master of Uzbek literature writer, playwright, publicist, and translator the People’s Writer of Uzbekistan, O‘tkir Hoshimov.
Within the framework of the interactive project “Masters of 20th Century Uzbek Literature” initiated by the Center of Islamic Civilization, special attention is being paid to the life and work of this great literary figure.
Born in 1941 in Tashkent, O‘tkir Hoshimov captured the spiritual world, values, and emotional experiences of an entire generation through his writings. His works such as “Chol Havo” (Desert Air), “Qalbingga quloq sol” (Listen to your heart), “Bahor qaytmaydi” (Spring will not return), “Nur borki, soya bor” (Where there is light, there is shadow), and “Dunyoning ishlari” (Worldly affairs) masterfully express the complex dialogue between time and human destiny.
In particular, through his novel “Ikki eshik orasi” (Between two doors), the writer profoundly analyzed national historical memory, personal suffering, and universal human values. He was highly productive not only in prose but also in drama, journalism, and translation. His works have been translated into multiple languages, with a total print circulation exceeding two million copies.
In 1991, he was awarded the honorary title of “People’s Writer of Uzbekistan,” as well as the orders “Mehnat Shuhrati” (Glory of Labor) and “Buyuk Xizmatlari Uchun” (For Outstanding Services).
The Center of Islamic Civilization is planning to develop a video map and special video projects to explore and convey the writer’s spiritual legacy to future generations.
