From manuscript to 3D: the art of the past reflected in the present

At the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan, proposed changes to the bas-relief composition “The wall of civilizations and discoveries” a component of the “pre-Islamic civilizations” exposition were discussed based on recommendations from a special commission.
Developed to portray historical eras through a modern interpretation, this exposition project aims to present the cultural heritage of our land in a deeper, more impactful, and visually powerful manner.
Key proposals were made for all sections of the project:
🔹 In the section on ancient culture and art, the theme of “Rock paintings” will depict humanity’s first creative steps through images of chariots and deer. A catalog titled “The first steps toward civilization” was proposed for this part.
🔹 In the section dedicated to ancient Bactria, Ptolemy’s map will be displayed, with the spread of Buddhism illustrated through special visual elements. The image of Alexander the Great will be redesigned in accordance with historical and aesthetic accuracy.
🔹 In the ancient Khorezm section, star patterns and astronomical symbols will be technically updated. Zoroaster’s motto “Good thoughts, good words, good deeds” will become the central element.
🔹 In the Sogdian section, figures of the people will be added around the image of Spitamen to enhance the spirit of heroism. The masked statue will be removed from the composition.
🔹 In the Fergana and Chach section, the female figure will be enriched with historical accessories. The number of horses will be reduced, while Chach and Fergana coins will be presented in precise and complete detail.
🔹 In the section devoted to the Great Silk Road, the depiction of the Chinese will be presented with factual reliability, while states such as Rome and Byzantium will also be added to the map.
All parts of the exposition are being prepared on the basis of historical documents, scholarly sources, and artistic expression. Specialists emphasized that this exposition will hold great spiritual and educational significance not only for local audiences but also for the international community.
