Pre-Islamic life is embodied in the bas-reliefs

🔴 Ancient civilizations on the “Time wall”
One of the key directions of the exhibition at the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan is the “Time wall” project, dedicated to showcasing the history, culture, and way of life of civilizations that existed before the advent of Islam.
A practical discussion on this project was held under the leadership of the Center’s director, Firdavs Abdukhalikov. Members of the scholarly-creative group historians, art critics, archaeologists, designers, and artists participated in the meeting, exchanging views on the artistic solutions for six large bas-relief works, which will form an important decorative part of the exhibition. In particular, the six major bas-relief compositions and their overall visual concept, being created within the framework of the “Time wall” project, were reviewed.
Through this project, the lifestyles, architectural styles, ideological and religious beliefs, customs, and cultural heritage of ancient civilizations such as Sogdiana, Bactria, Khorezm, Fergana, and Chach will be artistically expressed in bas-relief form. In addition, the project takes into account the significance of ancient trade routes and the impact of religions such as Zoroastrianism, Buddhism, and Judaism on social life.
As sculptor Shokhrukh Urozov emphasized, each bas-relief will be divided into three parts and installed in the exhibition hall using special techniques. After installation, detailing, finishing, and lighting elements will be added. The spaces between the bas-reliefs will be decorated with ornaments and patterns characteristic of each historical period.
Doctor of Historical Sciences Jannat Ismoilova noted that the “Time wall” project will provide visitors with a visual context of pre-Islamic history before they proceed further into the exhibition. In her view, this composition serves as an important artistic element that reflects historical events and cultural life, while also laying the foundation for the meaning of the subsequent exhibits.
During the meeting, several suggestions and recommendations were made by specialists regarding the bas-relief compositions. It was stressed that floor, ceiling, and lighting solutions should be chosen in harmony with the overall atmosphere, avoiding excessive decorations while maintaining the authentic aesthetics of the historical periods.
These efforts were evaluated as part of the fourth stage of exhibition preparation, with decisions adopted that will guide the next technical and creative processes of the project.
The “Time wall” project, carried out by the Center of Islamic Civilization, is considered one of the most important cultural initiatives, as it highlights not only the Islamic heritage but also the high civilizational achievements that preceded it.
