Work is underway at the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan to create a special interactive map that covers the enlightenment and achievements of Sahibqiron Amir Temur and the Timurid dynasty. This map will serve as an essential scientific and educational component of the permanent exhibition at the Center.
Through the map, the grand achievements of Amir Temur and the Timurid era in architecture, urban planning, horticulture, and irrigation will be vividly demonstrated. Historical buildings, residences, gardens, irrigation structures, and the architectural layouts and locations of major cities constructed under Amir Temur will be presented visually with interactive elements. Each historical site will be accompanied by detailed information, including who commissioned it, its purpose, to whom it was dedicated, as well as its architectural style, decorative features, and epigraphic inscriptions.
At the same time, the interactive map will comprehensively highlight the scientific centers, scholars, and artists of the Timurid era. This section will feature not only the prominent scientists and thinkers who gathered in Samarkand but also their later contributions across various countries for example, within the Ottoman Empire, the Baburid courts of India, and other regions. The scientific legacy of Ali Qushchi in Turkey, as well as the academic exchanges of other scholars bridging East and West, will also be represented on the map.
Another important aspect of the interactive map will be the presentation of scientific achievements fostered under Timurid patronage: discoveries in geography and astronomy, works in medicine and mathematics, creative schools, and the geographic spread of their influence. This will allow audiences to clearly understand the intellectual environment of that time and its regional impact.
This project aligns with the Center’s principle of the “civilization of knowledge and enlightenment” by digitally reconstructing, preserving, and popularizing historical heritage. At the same time, it enables a deeper appreciation of the spiritual and intellectual power of the Timurid era which played a major role in the development of Islamic civilization through modern technological tools.
