A register of 1,650 works, a digital map, and 11 films — the legacy of the great muhaddith is being rediscovered

At the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan, a working meeting was held dedicated to special projects in the religious and educational sphere being carried out in New Uzbekistan. The meeting, chaired by Davronbek Maksudov, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Religious Affairs, was attended by Center staff, project leaders, and relevant officials.

During the discussions, the status of 26 projects to be presented at the Imam Bukhari Innovative Museum was reviewed. Out of these, 21 projects have already been completed, with preliminary research and databases submitted. Certain shortcomings were discussed, and relevant recommendations were provided. Information was also shared on 11 films related to the life and scholarly legacy of Imam Bukhari, including a short film within the “Great Phenomenon” project depicting the scholar’s full life journey, as well as a film on the Imam Bukhari Complex.

It was noted that a digital map of Imam Bukhari’s scholarly journeys is being developed together with cartographers, and that a register of Imam Bukhari’s works preserved in world collections is being compiled, which is expected to include 1,650 titles.

“Today we reviewed the status of 25 important scientific and educational projects. Most of them are materials being prepared for the opening of the Imam Bukhari Complex. Many of these works have been completed, while others are still in technical stages such as publishing, editing, preparing mockups, and producing multilingual labels. In particular, based on the experiences of the Center’s leadership abroad, it is planned to present exhibits and reference materials not only in English and Arabic, but also in languages of countries such as Indonesia and Malaysia. This will enhance the Center’s scholarly and exhibition activities at the international level”, said Shoazim Minovarov, Head of the Center’s Publications Department.

It was also mentioned that efforts are underway to compile a collection of 650 manuscripts preserved in Turkish libraries, to implement a media project on the scholarly heritage of Imam Darimi, and to prepare academic annotated translations of about 70 works.

“Today’s discussion covered not only the analysis of projects but also how they should be presented, their visual expression, and how understandable and impactful they should be for the public. Every piece of research should not remain only on paper but must reach a wide audience through video clips, documentaries, maps, and multimedia tools”, said Abdushukur Murodov, Senior Researcher at the Center.

At the conclusion of the event, opinions and suggestions were also expressed regarding improving quality in the implementation of the projects, presenting them in modern formats, creating maps of hadith scholarship schools, producing facsimile editions of rare manuscripts, and compiling a register of institutions named after Imam Bukhari, which was emphasized as an important task.
