A model of the Qoyqirilgan Fortress will be featured in the exhibition of the Center of Islamic Civilization
A model of the Qoyqirilgan Fortress, built in the 4th century BCE, is planned to be included in the exhibition of the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan.
Located in the Ellikqala district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Qoyqirilgan Fortress is one of the most mysterious and fascinating ancient monuments in the Turan steppe. It is part of the renowned “Valley of Fortresses” in Karakalpakstan. Today, the site attracts not only archaeologists but also history and travel enthusiasts.
According to the German archaeologist Nikolaus Boroffka, the fortress’s circular design suggests that in addition to sun worship and the deification of the sun’s position on earth, there is another historical truth reflected in the structure.
Archaeological studies show that Qoyqirilgan Fortress was built between the 3rd century BCE and the 4th century CE. Its thick, durable walls were made of mountain clay, making it one of the most solid structures of its time. The discovery of pottery, coins, and various documents within the fortress indicates a vibrant life once thrived there. It served not only as a military outpost but also as a residential center.
