Image of the Kaaba Expected to Be Included in the Mega Project Exhibition

The image of the Kaaba dates back to 1870 and is executed in a graphic style. It is a family heritage passed down from artist and Doctor of Philosophy in Art Studies Behzod Khojimetov.

The painting is expected to take its place in the “Second Renaissance Period” section of the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan, within the “Khanates” direction of the exhibition.

The artwork measures 1.80 meters in width and 94 centimeters in height, created on silk fabric with gold embellishments. Turquoise colors are skillfully applied, and fragments of Quranic verses are placed beneath the depiction of the Kaaba. The painting, dating back one and a half centuries, was restored over three months by Shuhrat Polatov, a restorer from the National Library of Uzbekistan, using Japanese paper.

According to the artist, the painting reflects that at the end of the 19th century there was popular interest in how the Kaaba looked and how to depict it.
