Timurid Renaissance – A New Chapter opens in the Museum Exhibition

Today, within the framework of developing the exhibitions of the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan, a number of important discussions are taking place. One such discussion was held at the State Museum of the History of the Timurids in Tashkent.

The meeting addressed the issue of artifacts acquired through projects related to the formation of the Second Renaissance exhibition. Scholars discussed whether the artifacts should be original, or presented as facsimiles and replicas, as well as the use of digital exhibits.

It is well known that a significant portion of artifacts related to the Timurid Renaissance are preserved in foreign museums. Therefore, it was emphasized that the exhibition should include representative examples capable of presenting a comprehensive image of this historical period.

During the meeting, the necessity of creating an exhibition that harmoniously integrates themes such as history, philosophy, religious knowledge, literature, visual and applied arts was discussed. Ideas were proposed for designing a modern exhibition using interactive methods and multimedia technologies.

Several important questions were also raised by scholars. These included the format in which video materials should be prepared, and how manuscripts related to the literary heritage should be presented — whether only selected pages or full digital versions of entire works.

Special attention was given to the role of rare manuscripts preserved at the Institute of Oriental Studies in the exhibition.

All proposals and ideas put forward during the meeting will undoubtedly be reflected in the new exhibition concept. Such initiatives play a vital role in promoting the Timurid Renaissance on an international scale.
