The international conference dedicated to the birth of Imam Maturidi continues in Samarkand

An international scientific-practical conference "Moturidiylik - the Doctrine of Tolerance, Moderation, and Enlightenment" is being held in Samarkand, dedicated to the 1155th anniversary of the birth of the great theologian and pride of the Islamic world, Abu Mansur Maturidi. More than 70 influential scholars, muftis, Islamic scholars, and representatives of international organizations from nearly 30 countries attended this high-level event.

The conference is being organized within the framework of the reforms being implemented at the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to strengthen religious tolerance, interethnic harmony, and social stability in society. Ilkhomjon Marupov, Information Advisor to the Chairman of the Committee on Religious Affairs, expressed the following opinion about the purpose of the event:

- At a new stage in the development of our country, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev is carrying out consistent reforms to ensure religious tolerance, interethnic harmony, social stability in society, and a deep study of the rich scientific and spiritual heritage of our great scientists and thinkers. As a continuation of these efforts, the international conference "Moturidiylik - the Doctrine of Tolerance, Moderation, and Enlightenment" is being held in Samarkand on April 29-30, 2025. This is a very useful and necessary event for everyone. In Uzbekistan, the in-depth study and wide promotion of the rich scientific and spiritual heritage of our great scholars has been elevated to the level of state policy. This conference, taking place in Samarkand, serves precisely these purposes. This event is generating great interest in the international community.

Within the framework of the international conference, participants visited the mausoleum of Imam Moturidi. Also, through scientific sessions, discussions, and exchange of experience, the modern significance of the Maturidi doctrine and its role in peace, tolerance, and social harmony are being discussed.

Shahzod Islamov, Deputy Director of the Imam Moturidi International Research Center, said the following about the importance of the conference:

- This forum demonstrates to the whole world the deep respect for science, the heritage of ancestors, and culture in our country. Among the organizers are such authoritative organizations as the Committee on Religious Affairs, the Imam Maturidi International Center, the International Center for Islamic Studies, and the Muslim Board. This will further enhance the international prestige of the event.

For information, today more than 750 million of the nearly 1.9 billion Muslim population belong to the Maturidi school of thought. This means that the legacy of Imam Moturidi has not only historical, but also relevant contemporary significance. This international conference, ongoing in Samarkand, once again confirms our country's leading position in the religious and educational sphere.
