Abdulvahid Burkhonov was the first organizer of evening schools for elderly people

Abdulvahid Burkhonov was an enlightened poet, statesman, and public figure. Starting from the 1890s, he began writing educational poetry under the pseudonym "Munzim."

In 1908, he traveled to Samarkand to study teaching methods in the Jadid schools under Mahmudkhodja Behbudi and Abdukadir Shakuri. That same year, he opened a Jadid school in his own home, and in 1909, he organized an evening school for elderly people. From 1918 to 1920, Munzim lived in Tashkent. After the establishment of the Bukhara People's Soviet Republic, he worked first as the Deputy Chairman of the Central Executive Committee and later held the positions of Minister of Public Education and Minister of Health.

Abdulvahid Burkhonov's activities will be highlighted in the exhibition at the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan through the interactive project “The Movement of Young Bukharans.”
