What connects the Taj Mahal and Registan?

Among the unique architectural monuments of the East, Registan and the Taj Mahal hold a special place. They are not only the greatest structures of their time but also symbolize cultural ties. Interestingly, Registan in Samarkand and the Taj Mahal in Agra were constructed almost simultaneously. The similarities between these two magnificent buildings are not a coincidence but the result of deep cultural and architectural cooperation between the states of the Ashtrakhans and the Baburids.

In the 17th century, diplomatic and economic relations between these two great states reached a high level. This is also evidenced by the portrait of Imamquli Khan, created during the reign of Aurangzeb. The best architects of the time participated in the construction of both Registan and the Taj Mahal, exchanging experience and collaborating with each other.

Currently, materials are being gathered for the exhibition at the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan about the similarities and differences between these two historical monuments, their architects, and the history of their construction. Special multimedia materials dedicated to these masterpieces are also being prepared and will be displayed in the museum.
