In New Uzbekistan, the priority is not fighting corruption, but preventing it

The fight against corruption is one of the most important areas of state policy in Uzbekistan. This is further confirmed by the expanded meeting of the National Council for Combating Corruption, which was held under the chairmanship of our President with the participation of representatives of the public.

In particular, in the last seven to eight years, the President has paid special attention to the issue of combating corruption, which has become the most discussed and relevant topic in society. Changes have been made to the legislation on combating corruption, committees responsible for this direction have been established in the chambers of parliament, and the National Council and the Anti-Corruption Agency have been formed, which have brought positive results in the short term.

At the expanded meeting of the National Council for Combating Corruption, the President outlined priority tasks and initiatives. It was proposed to completely renew the composition of the regional councils for combating corruption, which should be headed not by local administrators but by the heads of the people's councils of the regions. These councils should work with people, identify corruption factors, and search for answers to questions about which laws need to be changed to solve the problem.

The meeting also emphasized that work in the social sphere will now include not only the fight against crime at the district and mahalla level but also the prevention of corruption. In fact, investors are more willing to invest in safe areas with low levels of crime, and public trust in the authorities will increase.

Another important initiative was the proposal to accelerate the adoption of a law on the declaration of income by public officials, which has long been awaited by the people and activists. The President instructed the responsible individuals to submit this bill for public discussion and present it by April 1.

While preparing the bill, it is also necessary to consider issues of responsibility for the illegal accumulation of wealth. A public official will have to prove the origin of property that does not correspond to their declared income. Therefore, it is important to study international standards and norms on this issue.

In conclusion, analyzing the results of the work on combating corruption under the leadership of the President, it can be confidently said that the reforms initiated will not be reversed. Now, in New Uzbekistan, the main task is not to eliminate corruption, but to prevent its emergence.
