A unique library preserving the rich legacy of Central Asian scholars

What you are seeing is not just an ordinary library it is a prestigious institution where knowledge, history, spirituality, and modern technology converge: the Library of the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan!

As part of the Center’s content development strategy, 18 core projects selected for the first phase will enable the library not only to preserve literature, but also to develop, digitize, and systematically catalog its collections, while integrating research classified by language and region.

The main objectives of this library include:

— Preserving scholarly heritage and transmitting it to future generations
— Digitizing rare manuscripts
— Creating electronic catalogues
— Collecting academic research in Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Russian, and European languages
— Equipping the library with modern technology
— And, importantly, ensuring equal access for readers with limited abilities — all of which represent the key pillars of this project.

In short, the Library of the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan is a unique institution dedicated to preserving Islamic history, the scholarly works of Central Asian thinkers, and the rich intellectual legacy of our ancestors.

The modernization of the library includes equipping and automating its systems, tagging books with RFID technology, establishing open-access collections, and enabling user access through an electronic catalog all of which are part of the project’s advanced technological solutions.

Ravshan Qodirov, Head of the Library and Archival Documentation Department at the Center of Islamic Civilization:

One of the most important components among the Center’s initiatives is its library. In forming the collection, special attention is given to gathering sources about the scholars and scientific-educational schools founded by the great thinkers of Uzbekistan. The collection is also being enriched with literature, manuscripts, and archaeological materials published both in Uzbekistan and abroad.

Another key direction is the exhibition project titled ‘From Paper to E-Book to Artificial Intelligence’, which will be organized in the library’s foyer. It will present a practical overview of the history of books from ancient manuscripts to modern AI!

New foreign and domestic publications are also being added to the library’s collection and integrated into a modern electronic catalog, allowing readers to quickly and easily locate the works they need.

Scientific research in Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Russian, and even European languages is being consolidated into one central repository, contributing to the international scholarly standing of the Center’s library.

The Library of the Center of Islamic Civilization is truly a caravan of enlightenment journeying from the past into the future.
